Chrysalis is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a pathway to self-sufficiency for homeless and low-income individuals by providing the resources and support needed to find and retain employment.
The Volunteer Manager reports to the Director of Institutional Giving and is responsible for the overall management of Chrysalis’ extensive volunteer program and network.
Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
Manage the recruitment, cultivation, placement, and acknowledgement of Chrysalis volunteers, which include client services, special events, and one-time project volunteers.
Recruit volunteers using a variety of methods, including but not limited to the use of Chrysalis’ website, online job boards, live presentations and outreach visits to community and corporate partners.
Conduct interviews and orientations with prospective volunteers to evaluate and assure the appropriateness of placement in Chrysalis’ volunteer program.
Work with Director of Training to screen and do preliminary prep for workshop and class facilitators.
Manage a rotation of 100+ long-term, trained volunteers who provide one-on-one interview and resume training for clients and facilitate all classes and workshops. Maintain a pipeline of new volunteers to avoid disruption of services when volunteers turn-over.
Develop and implement a system of recognizing volunteers and their contributions to Chrysalis.
Take a leadership role in group Day for Change volunteer days, to train one-day volunteers to conduct mock interviews with clients. Organize and lead other group volunteer activities, as necessary.
Coordinate with Site Volunteer Coordinators at each of the three Chrysalis centers to assess current volunteer needs and ensure appropriate volunteer placement, training, feedback, follow-up, relationship building and accurate tracking.
Work with program staff to develop and maintain volunteer resources, including but not limited to applications, training materials, handbooks, and a systematic evaluation process for program volunteers.
Alongside the Director of Special Events, create and disseminate information to volunteers, including job descriptions and training protocols related to special event activities at Chrysalis. Recruit for and manage volunteer operations at special events, as well as one-time special projects.
Collaborate with other members of the Development team and Chrysalis staff at-large to use Chrysalis’ volunteer opportunities as a cultivation strategy for future donors, especially through direct service engagement such as Women’s Empowerment Program, Career Seminars, Employer Panels, and other program volunteer opportunities.
Develop a consistent voice and tone for all volunteer recruitment and community outreach messaging, campaign strategies and materials with the Director of Marketing, Communications and Design.
Manage Chrysalis’ six year-end client holiday parties, including budget management, operations, event management, volunteer outreach and solicitation of in-kind products/services.
Ensure all volunteer relationship information is tracked in Raiser’s Edge and the volunteer management program Volgistics.
Attend all fundraising events and represent Chrysalis as a spokesperson to potential and current community and corporate partners.
Provide general support to the Development & Communications department as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field required.
Preferred 2-4 years experience in volunteer management, community relations, event planning or a similar field.
Comfortable speaking to crowds and communicating with a wide variety of people both internally and externally.
Demonstrated history of developing, maintaining and growing strong community partnerships and volunteer programs.
Demonstrated ability to tie volunteer and outreach efforts to the overall organizational mission.
Professional appearance and demeanor required.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Prior experience achieving successful outcomes while working under limited supervision.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow up to completion on many simultaneous projects.
Flexible, with the ability to work some nights and weekends.
Reliable transportation required to travel between offices.
Proficient in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Commitment to the organizational mission and sensitivity to the needs of poor and disenfranchised populations.This is an exciting position in a fast-paced office.
