Description
Job Summary:
The Volunteer and Program Coordinator will oversee all volunteer coordination and client training activities at the Pacoima site.  Duties include placing, training and coordinating all Pacoima volunteers and recruiting/screening prospective volunteers for all sites. The Volunteer & Program Coordinator will provide direct services to Chrysalis clients, helping them build resumes and interview skills, and will teach Chrysalis’ job readiness, computer, customer service classes as needed.  The position is based at Chrysalis’ Pacoima office, but will support activities across the organization and will require some travel to our downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica offices.
Duties and Responsibilities to include but not limited to:
 
VOLUNTEER COORDINATION & TRAINING
  • Recruit and screen new volunteers for all three Chrysalis offices on ongoing basis.
  • Assess program needs, interview and onboard new volunteers regularly.
  • Facilitate regularly scheduled information sessions for prospective volunteers.
  • Ensure effective and appropriate volunteer placement, training, feedback, follow-up, relationship building and tracking.
  • Oversee volunteer appreciation efforts, including recognizing volunteer exits and milestones. 
  • Provide formal training to volunteers in both individual and group sessions.
  • Evaluate volunteer performance on an ongoing basis, giving direct feedback, following up with necessary training.
  • Supervise, train and coordinate interns in conjunction with Site Director as needed.
  • Work closely with Client Services team, attending weekly staff meetings and maintaining active communication about volunteers.
 
DIRECT CLIENT SERVICES
  • Provide one-on-one services (including resume preparation, practice interviews, and computer tutorials) and class coverage as needed.
  • Recruit volunteers for and facilitate monthly Career Seminars and quarterly Employer and Client Panels.
  • Coordinate Customer Service Training program, including back-up facilitation, maintaining a supply of training materials, creating and distributing flyers and working with staff to promote the training.
  • Collaborate in the design and development of Chrysalis’ training programs, with an eye towards making ongoing improvements.
 
ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Schedule volunteers for both one-on-one and class facilitation to ensure coverage, maintaining close contact with Employment Specialists to ensure clients’ services are covered.
  • Maintain up-to-date data on volunteer activity, regularly submitting reports to both the Client Services and Development & Communications Departments.
  • Communicate regularly with Development & Communications Department regarding relevant volunteer activity, including a monthly meeting with the Manager of Individual and Corporate Giving.
  • Update Development & Communications team on volunteer/training data for publications and grants reports.
  • Produce regular volunteer newsletters and/or emails.
  • Recruit volunteers for and coordinate annual client Thanksgiving celebration.
  • Support planning and execution of client holiday parties.
  • Assist in coordination of any special events involving volunteers, including Chrysalis’ United Way Homewalk team.
  • Monitor and replenish supplies for all volunteer-related client services.
Job Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Teaching/facilitation/training experience highly desired.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and intercultural skills.
  • Computer proficiency required.  Must be proficient in internet research, Word, Excel and PowerPoint programs and be willing to learn other applications as needed.
  • Prior experience achieving successful outcomes while working under limited supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow up to completion on many simultaneous projects.
  • Comfortable speaking to crowds and communicating with a wide variety of people both internally and externally.
  • Highly motivated by Chrysalis’ mission and desire to improve social and economic
    fabric of our community.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor required.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Car, valid driver’s license and insurance required.
